Well, it looks like we’re down to eight teams.
Needless to say, my picks from last weekend were atrocious, picking one winner out of the four Wild-Card games.
Just so everyone knows, I pick these games with my gut because I feel that is the only way to go.
This week, I hope to be a bit better.
Saturday, January 12
Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers, 4:30 p.m.
–Seattle surprised me last weekend. I didn’t think they were for real and I’m still not convinced. Sean Alexander isn’t really playing well this season, but he will need to if they expect to beat G.B. They’re 10-6 on the season with a terrible 3-5 road record.
–I believe Green Bay is the real deal this year. Favre is playing out of his mind and the team as a whole is stellar. This coming from a Lions fan. With a 13-3 record overall, they still managed to go 7-1 at home.
–My Pick: Green Bay, no doubt about it. The last thing Seattle wants to do right now is head to the Frozen Tundra in January. The Seahawks better bring their ‘A+’ game because Favre is looking to go out on top this season, which could be his last.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ New England Patriots, 8 p.m.
–Jacksonville has been looking great the second half of the season and into the playoffs. I didn’t believe they were for real, but now I’m at least thinking they might be. But we’ll see how real they are when they go up against the best team in the league. The Jags are 11-5 on the season with a 5-3 road record.
–New England is hands-down the best team in the league. They are superior on offense and defense when compared to just about any team in the NFL. They went 16-0 in the regular season. Nuff said.
–My Pick: The Jags seem to be the hot pick for everyone again this week. But, there is no way in hell I will ever pick against the Patriots, especially against Jacksonville. I understand that the Jags are a good team…but the Patriots are a great team.
Sunday, January 13
San Diego Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m.
–The Chargers have been looking strong and are making a nice case for themselves in the playoffs. L.T. is the best back in the league (no matter what anyone says). Once again, the play of QB Phillip Rivers is crucial to San Diego’s success. No doubt he will be slightly less effective with out his main target, TE Antonio Gates. The Chargers have a 4-4 regular season road record.
–The Colts are defending Super Bowl champs, just incase anyone needs reminding. One weakness Indy has (if any) is stopping the run, which could present a problem when facing L.T. QB Peyton Manning will be looking to be redeem himself after throwing six interceptions his last outing. The Colts be well rested. The Colts went 6-2 at home during the regular season.
–My Pick: I think this is going to be the best game to watch this weekend. The Chargers already beat the Colts once this season by a slim margin, so the Colts will be looking for revenge on their home turf. I can’t go against the defending champs in good conscience.
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys, 4:30 p.m.
–The Giants surprised some (myself included) by beating the Bucs last week. They look improved on the offensive side of the ball and the defense is stellar as usual. New York seems to have the hot-hand and are being picked for an upset special this weekend along with the Jags. They also have a near-perfect road record of 7-1 on the season.
–The Cowboys have had a few media distractions this week with QB Tony Romo and his girly Jessica Simpson. Their running game has been struggling recently as well. However, Dallas has been one of the teams to beat this entire season and still seemed to be extremely focused.
–My Pick: Dallas beat the Giants twice this season already. My gut is telling me to pick the Giants for that simple fact right there, but my brain is telling me to look at Dallas the stats. Numbers don’t lie, so I’m going with the Cowboys.
