Kid Rock to Rap Once Again

Kid Rock is out on the road once again to promote his Rock N Roll Jesus album.

But don’t look for the same old show you’ve been seeing from Rock the past few years. The tour includes the likes of Rev Run, from Run DMC, the J. Geils Band’s Peter Wolf and former Allman Brother Dickey Betts.

Rock will share the stage with them during their mini-sets, wrapping his own material around theirs. At the end, they all return for a show-closing set, which is sure to bring the house down.

According to the Detroit News, Mr. Ritchie has caught the hip-hop jones again, once prominent during his early career.

Rock said he is currently working on a hip-hop album with some big-name producers (no names mentioned), in addition to an album with Run.

I just want to make some middle-America, suburban, middle-aged, white-guy hip-hop,” Rock says. “I want to make some hip-hop that I love, that I grew up on. And still have it be credible and down, but not compete with any of these young rappers.”

I love this idea. Some may not know that Kid Rock started out as a rapper. His first album, Grit Sandwiches for Breakfast, was straight rap. The three albums following Grits, were a fusion of rock and rap: The Polyfuze Method, Early Mornin’ Stoned Pimp and the one that put him on the map, Devil Without A Cause.

Some may think that going back to rapping may be corny or that Rock “can’t rap” or even that he is past this musically. But if it sounds anything like these two: alb11360.jpg ec4b12bb9da054c7d0d2c010_aa240_l.jpg then I say go for it. I mean really, how many people can genre hop like the Kid has done? When it comes to music talent and prowess along those lines, it’s something that I enjoy and respect.

  1. I been a fan of Kid Rock ever since I first heard “American Bad Ass” used as the Undertaker’s WWF entrance back in the day. I enjoy all of his music (rock, rap, country) but it really shined my day when I heard he would be “goin’ back to his roots” and working on a hip-hop album! I CANNOT WAIT!!! Can’t wait to hear his songs w/ Lil’ Jon and Rev Run too!
